Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension, consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a raised depiction of a German national eagle grappling with a Chinese dragon, the reverse bearing a central raised and crowned monogram of Kaiser Wilhelm II, circumscribed by an inscription of VERDIENST UMD DIE EXPEDITION NACH CHINA (SERVICE TO THE EXPEDITION TO CHINA), unmarked, measuring
